West Sussex Library Service wanted to celebrate 100 years of being at the heart of the community in West Sussex.
To mark this historic milestone they came to RamJam for inspiration leading to the creation of the Library of Possibilities and Wonders - a virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) experience and treasure hunt.
The experiences let you visit 5 different books through VR and AR - seeing West Sussex 100 years ago in 'History', the beautiful downs in 'Countryside', a trip to the ISS in 'Space', a treasure hunting mission in 'Smuggling' and baking a celebration cake in 'Cooking'.
To bring the adventures to life and tie everything together we developed a brand new mascot for the library service - Marty the Martlet. Marty became the star of the show, featuring on all printed material and merchandise, providing the lure for the treasure hunt posters and the in-experience guide through all 5 VR worlds
The VR experiences needed to be accessible for visitors of all different ages and abilities, resulting in us simplifying all interactions down to a simple bubble pop. For the AR posters and collectible treasure hunt we utilised our propietary platform PromotAR to be able to seamless and easily provide an accessible experience for all.
The Library of Possibilities and Wonder will tour all 36 West Sussex libraries. The time released treasure hunt posters are availalbe all year round and the VR headsets hosted at new locations during the year.
County council cabinet member for community support, fire and rescue Duncan Crow said: “This is such a special year for the Library Service. Our libraries are an integral part of the community, providing valuable services which support residents and help them fulfil their potential, which is one of the priorities in Our Council Plan.
“The centenary year will highlight the past, present and future of West Sussex libraries – our proud history, thriving present, and a look to the exciting future, especially digital innovations like VR.
